Job Title: Head of Electrical and Controls Design

Department: Design

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer

SUMMARY
• Provide lead design services for FTSI electrical and controls systems.
• Schedule and manage the work of up to (4) engineers and (4) draftspersons in electrical design and engineering.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards and practices within the department.
• Interface and coordinate with all departments for proper allocation of electrical engineering resources to projects and tasks.
• Maintain engineering and fabrication information and drawings for all FTSI products.
• Interview and evaluate prospective electrical design employees.
• Train employees on FTSI design processes, documentation and drafting standards.
• Manage department software upgrades and evolution.
• Develop programs to enhance the knowledge base of the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Verification of client specifications in order to lead the design of control and electrical systems that meet or exceed client specifications.
• Form relationships with outside manufacturers and vendors in order to facilitate electrical design processes.
• Manage FTSI manufacturing and purchasing databases throughout the design process.
• Perform or direct electrical design, engineering, documentation, and drafting/modeling duties for each of the following: revisions to existing FTSI stock products, production of new FTSI equipment, design of test fixtures, and facility interface designs to accommodate FTSI equipment.
• Perform calculations to provide engineering analyses of electrical loads and requirements as it pertains to electrical design.
• Perform optimization and value engineering reviews of both existing and new FTSI equipment for improvements in manufacturing cost and efficacy.
• Prepare bills of materials for finished electrical assemblies and assist in the procurement of outside vendor parts and services.
• Lead internal and external engineering and design reviews and produce redline/revision packages for review.
• Create physical testing criteria of equipment and coordinate expected and actual results analyses with fabrication and testing personnel.
• Supervise and assist in the creation of finished electrical assembly and fabrication drawings, O&M manuals and final client submittal packages.
• Research and specify components from industry manufacturers for FTSI electrical designs.
• Create or direct the creation of bills of materials, component sourcing, and/or component substitutions for the purpose of supporting, maintaining and developing FTSI proprietary PCB designs.
• Manage 3rd party and outsourced engineering and design services.
• Provide data for the creation of project quotations, budgets and final cost analyses.
• Continue to expand FTSI’s application of emerging technologies for the purpose of designing and producing leading edge controls technology.
• Other engineering duties as required by the demands of special and custom projects.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Six years minimum experience using AutoCAD 2000 or higher in a professional full-time setting to create electrical schematics, preferably with AutoCAD Electrical. Additional experience with a 3D modeling program (i.e. Inventor, SolidWorks) and AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop.
• Five years minimum experience with outsourcing surface mount multilayer and through-hole printed circuit board manufacturing and assembly. Experience in PCB layout and design is desirable.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products and must have strong understanding of Microsoft Windows Operating systems.
• Must be able to work appropriately as the leader of a team be self-motivated and be able to work unsupervised and be able to multi-task and prioritize work.
• Also, the ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team with engineering and technical staff, work within deadlines and adjust personal schedule as required and the ability to create and maintain a positive relationship with departments and clients are all important.
• Ability to be a creative thinker; willingness to try new approaches to job.
• Ability to continue education outside of normal office hours in order to increase knowledge and awareness of industry trends and technology.
• Thorough knowledge of UL 508, NFPA 70e, NEC as well as variety of standards, code and regulations required for the application of cutting edge controls technology in the entertainment industry.
