Description
Perform duties to set up and operate extruder machines assuring continous compliance with customer specificiations. Usually under direction of Supervisor perform all duties relating to complete machine start ups and changeover.
Work with material ratio work sheets, extrusion part reports and extrusion operational checklists. Perform all required start ups, shut downs, and housekeeping.
Set up extruder machine by turning on blower, auger and screw control and setting melt pump, line speed and slitter width. Select appropriate amount of virgin and reground product based upon silo volumes. Maintain optimal hopper and loading bin capacity and troubleshoot minor filling issues. Adjust dies, pressure valves, haul off roll clearances and speeds and replaces screens as necessary. Unload coils from winder and replace shafts and cores. Maintain proper screw, barrel, and temperatures. Move scrap material to grinding room, grind scrap material and clean grinding room necessary. Visually inspect and clean dies by scrapping off burnt material. Use forklift and hoist to weight and move finished coils. Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent. Up to 3 months extrusion or other manufacturing experience preferred. Forklift operation. Control panel operation. Equipment used: forklift, overhead hoist, micrometers, scales, fixtures, extruder machine, grinding machine, hopper, loading bins, iron and assorted hand tools. Physical requirements include ability to lift and carry 25 to 60 pounds up to 3 hours a shift.
