Engineering Technician III
Job Summary
Performs technical functions supporting manufacturing engineering activities. Develops, and documents production and inspection procedures. Improves manufacturing processes, supports resolution of product quality issues and provides training and technical support to operations and quality assurance. Collects and analyzes data and reports results. Builds, troubleshoots, repairs and calibrates equipment. Designs and programs automatic equipment and implements inspection setup for production. Provides technical assistance to engineers on equipment/fixture design/implementation, and to manufacturing personnel in design/update of production processes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assists engineers in the development of new systems and equipment. Develops and prepares mechanical drawings, schematics, design specifications, and parts lists, or makes recommendations regarding these items. Reviews designs, specifications of equipment, fixtures and tools for adequacy.
2. Provides technical assistance to engineering, program, or manufacturing personnel.
3. Develops methods and procedures; implements intricate setups; and programs automatic equipment.
4. Reviews and recommends revisions to manufacturing processes, procedures and work instruction to ensure production and inspection requirements are met.
5. Supports complex production and inspection processes requiring selection, set-up, operation, maintenance, and calibration, troubleshooting or repairing a wide variety of equipment. May also require diagnosing faults; and troubleshooting of complex electrical, mechanical and/or hydraulic systems.
6. Determines inspection data to be collected, extracts information, and performs complex statistical analysis calculations of data. Documents inspection procedures and writes detailed reports on inspection results. Records problems of significant complexity that may require resolution at a higher level.
7. Develops programming for automated production and inspection equipment, including CNC machining center, CMM laser inspection equipment and other automated production equipment.
8. Coordinates with manufacturing and engineering to evaluate product/process quality issues, makes recommendations and implements changes for continual improvement.
9. Supports engineers in conducting process capability studies, collecting/analyzing data, determining statistical capability and recommending changes.
10. Instructs/trains various personnel in equipment operation, safety procedures.
11. Travels as required to off-site testing locations.
12. Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.
13. Shares responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.

Key Job Requirements:
Minimum Education / Experience:
1. Two years of vocational or military training in electronics, hydraulics, mechanics, automated control systems or equivalent experience; plus a minimum of four years of related experience to program, troubleshoot, operate, calibrate and repair automated equipment, design/implement complex CMM inspection equipment, and/or design/program automated equipment for a variety of complex systems. 2. Certain positions covered by this job description may require specialized technical knowledge.

Preferred Education / Experience:
1. Prefer experience with CNC programming of machining centers and providing technical support for machining large welded structures in a defense environment.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Working knowledge of CNC automated control/programming and a work history of successful application of this to solve problems within a machining environment.
2. Knowledge of inspection methods and equipment.
3. Knowledge of Excel and Word is required to write reports.
4. Ability to analyze inspection data, understand GD&T and review drawings, or specifications for adequacy and product conformance.
5. Knowledge of manufacturing and inspection processes in a defense environment.
6. Ability to work as part of a team to solve technical problems.
7. Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously and prioritize work.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Familiarity with relevant military and commercial manufacturing standards.
2. Advanced knowledge of CNC automated control/programming
3. Detailed knowledge of CMM use and/or willingness to develop expertise.
4. Knowledge of SPC, process capability studies and automated controls.
