More information about this job: Job Overview: This position supports Aerojet's growing Mechanical Engineering organization in Sacramento and reports to the Mechanical Design Manager or designated lead. Performs a variety of mechanical engineering tasks on fast-paced development programs. Requires experience with Tank and Composite Pressure Vessel design.
Responsibilities: 70% - Performs mechanical component design of Composite Pressure Vessels, Propellant Tanks and Pressurant Tanks. General duties consist of creating design layouts using CAD software, performing preliminary analysis, preparing/reviewing-engineering drawings, participating in hardware testing and design reviews. May participate in engineering trade studies, mechanical integration of new designs and analysis coordination. Requires working level knowledge of fabrication techniques and qualification testing. 20% - Participate in customer meetings, peer reviews, and problem solving meetings. Prepare and present technical material for stage gate design reviews. Contacts include interacting with government and commercial customers on technical matters, which requires excellent technical presentation skills. Review designs and provide technical input with respect to hardware manufacturing, processing and mechanical assembly. Requires interaction with technicians and suppliers to assure that engineering requirements are satisfied. 10% Prepare engineering test plans, specifications and technical reports.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related engineering/scientific discipline and nine years of directly related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Candidate must have demonstrated experience initiating project and seeing them through to completion. Thorough knowledge of composites, polymers, and metallic materials used in pressure vessels is required. Requires working level knowledge of fabrication techniques and qualification testing. Must understand Mil-1522 and S-081A Standards. Experience with solid rocket motors and/or Liquid Engine technology a plus. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
