This position will directly support the Amgen Rhode Island pilot plant, which provides critical technical support for technology transfers, process characterization, scale-up / scale-down activities, and commercial manufacturing investigations. Individual will be expected to interface with Amgen's global pilot plant network to harmonize operations and drive efficiency. This individual will be expected to provide key engineering technical knowledge in the following areas: • Equipment design, procurement, and implementation • Process control and automation strategies • Process operation and experimental design • Understanding of basic mammalian cell culture unit operations
Daily activities include experimental setup and execution. Perform process/equipment and automation troubleshooting. Collaborate with cross functional product teams to convert technical requirements into pilot plant experiments. Work with site and corporate engineering functions for the procurement and implementation of process equipment. Support all phases of the equipment lifecycle. Author and maintain operating procedures, batch records and engineering documents (Piping and Instrumentation Drawings, User Requirements Specifications, and Automation Documents). Develop automation (Delta V) expertise to assist in troubleshooting issues and advancing the technology.
Basic Qualifications Master's degree
OR
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of directly related experience
OR
Associate's degree and 6 years of directly related experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 8 years of directly related experience
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and three or more years of biotechnology experience in manufacturing, engineering or process development with experience in cell culture or purification unit operations.
Experience in engineering projects involving equipment and automation design. Specific hands on experience with Delta V strongly desired. Understanding of plant process control systems and strategies. Experience of process data analysis and interpretation Experience of collaboration within and across functional areas and sites Outstanding customer service focus Strong written and verbal communication skills
