Alliant Energy owns and operates three wind farms which make up a portion of our generation mix. All wind farms utilize the Vestas V82 1.65 turbines with a combined total of 290 machines.
We are currently recruiting for an Engineer III- (Wind) at our General Office in Cedar Rapids, IA.
We are looking for a professional that possesses:
Experience with wind sensors and control systems Experience with low speed rotating machinery Experience with wind generator and gear box cooling systems Experience with lubrication and oil analysis Experience with vibration analysis Experience implementing and performing, monitoring based activities to increase capacity, efficiency and optimize asset life of the turbines.

Job Summary
Performs a variety of engineering work in monitoring the output and sub component performance of the V82 turbines. Ability to address economically feasible solutions to maximize the complete investment of the turbine fleet by taking into account capacity, efficiency and asset life. Ability to provide implementation plans, and when necessary project management of solutions.
Job Accountabilities
Work on a variety of problems, some of which require in-depth analysis to determine appropriate solution; use a variety of complex tools and resources to solve problems.
Use tools and standards to design for safety in operating and maintaining equipment.
Maintain an awareness of customer needs and expectations and propose solutions.
Proactively involved in the identification and solution of problems falling within assigned area of responsibility with minimal guidance.
Go beyond generally accepted guidelines to analyze problems and recommend possible solutions. Assist in solving moderately complex problems by identifying new ways of using existing procedures, techniques and resources.
Apply governmental and organizational engineering standards; make recommendations for changing processes & procedures.
Interpret policy and exercise discretion and independent judgment in resolving moderately complex problems; may assist less experienced staff in making decisions.
Frequently use critical thinking skills necessary to develop recommendations which provide technically sound and the most cost effective solutions applied to a specific problem.
Demonstrate an understanding of the customer and business needs and regularly develop and implement the appropriate workable solutions to problems based on given budgetary and schedule constraints.
Make medium risk decisions that involve direct application of technical knowledge with proper sign off from customer and minimal guidance from supervisor.
Identify areas of opportunity within the scope of assigned area of responsibility which will improve performance; proactively identify and propose, operational guidelines, standards, training, strategic plans, etc., that will help the customer sustain identified improvements.
Proactively provide guidance to less experienced staff members; has established effective working relationships with employees, contractors, BU customers, functional groups, and internal and external peers; is effective in dealing with the director level employees within the company.
Key team member who makes positive, supportive contributions on teams that deal with technical or operational problems.
Determine the classification of projects between capital and maintenance using the property unit catalog. Working knowledge of financial and business skills including budgeting, accounting, utility economics, NPV, EBIT. Manage project budgets, including processes accruals and communicates anticipated changes in the budget;
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely at departmental levels within the organization; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical problems to internal stakeholders; demonstrated ability to accurately prepare detailed documents such as technical studies, project documentation for future reference, etc.
Perform work on a variety of assignments of moderate scope and complexity using established procedures under limited supervision.

Participate and makes positive, supportive contributions on teams as assigned.
In addition to Engineer I requirements, actively participates in the departmental budgeting process.

Job Qualifications
Education or experience equivalent to a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in engineering; Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
A minimum of five to eight years technical and/or professional experience.
Mechanical experience in rotating equipment to produce electricity in analyzing key parameters and making decisions about the overall condition of the equipment. Lead team in maintenance interval discussions and presenting maintenance and change out programs of large sub component pieces of the wind turbine.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management) preferred.
Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
