Participates in the design of various rural and urban highway construction projects including resurfacing and reconstruction projects assigned to the Expressway Design Section. Performs design of various roadway features including horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, cross sections, earthwork, guardrail, erosion control and other features. Performs hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and designs culverts and storm sewers. Prepares roadway, culvert and storm sewer cross-section plans. Drafts miscellaneous design details. Prepares and reviews preliminary and final construction project plans. Prepares estimates of construction project quantities and costs. Performs data collection, background research, note reduction, calculations, analysis and documentation of engineering related decisions. Prepares for, participates in and conducts project related meetings and field inspections. Prepares project related documents and reports. Maintains project correspondence files and plans in an accurate and up to date condition. Coordinates and manages several highway design projects concurrently within the Division and Department, including consultant engineers and public service agencies such as cities, counties and utilities. Aid, assist and review the work of other engineering personnel including paraprofessionals and engineers in training. Computes wetland impacts and design wetland mitigation sites. Writes and reviews special provisions, alternative analysis for multiple alignments and NEPA documents. Supervises and reviews the work of consultant engineers.
Qualifications / Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS: Professional experience in an engineering field applicable to the employing agency AND Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application, and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at the time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
PREFERRED: Experience and knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering and modern methods and techniques of the design of highways, streets, culverts, storm sewers andstandards. Experience and knowledge of the preparation of highway construction plans and construction estimates. Construction field experience. At least three years of highway design experience. Experience and knowledge in MicroStation and Geopak, Microsoft Word and Excel. Regular and reliable attendance.

Skills in organization, communication, public relations and coordinating project activities.
