GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Division focuses on military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Division supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and the Department of Transportation.

This exciting position will be responsible for the integration of the General Atomics systems engineering and manufacturing operations for EMALS and AAG for CVN 78 and follow production contracts.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Interfaces with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and the Navy (and shipyard) in planning and coordinating production, delivery, installation, and check-out of hardware

-Supports engineering, manufacturing and project management to expedite resolution of non-conformances, deviations, and changes impacting production

-Facilitates the process definition, execution, and timely release of contract deliverables for Production Data Package Updates, CVN78 Ship Installation Specifications and Control Drawings, Physical Configuration Audits, As-Built Drawings, and Equipment Variation Summary Drawings

-Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services requirements are met

-Performs related systems engineering tasks as directed by management

-Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems

-Troubleshoots conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements

-Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required

-May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects

-Provides direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff

-Observes all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company

-Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures

-Performs other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & DUTIES:

-Typically requires a Bachelors degree, Masters degree or PhD in Engineering or related technical field and progressively complex engineering experience as follows; ten or more years experience with a Bachelors degree, four or more years experience with a Masters degree, and two or more with a PhD

-May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education

-Minimum experience of eight years in manufacturing/design/component engineering and assembly in a production environment

-Demonstrate performance involving the creation of project plans, work authorization documents and earned value management principles

-Knowledge of planning, scheduling, budgeting, and performance measurement systems and their application is required

-Experience in resolving vendor issues and providing direction to ensure program schedule and cost goals are met

-Must demonstrate knowledge of systems engineering principles and tools for defining and controlling complex developments

-Strong analytical skills in the application of engineering concepts, theories and practices

-Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and computer skins

-Must be proficient with MS Office and Project

-Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

-U.S. Navy program acquisition, shipbuilding, ship design, construction and component engineering experience.

-Experience in Earned Value Management Systems, Windchill product data management, AutoCad, and ProE.

-Proficient with MS Office and scheduling/planning in Microsoft Project.

-Experience in teaming with engineering staff in multiple organizations

-Working knowledge of systems engineering process

OTHER PARTICULARS:

-Self starter

-Ability to work extended hours

-Ability to travel to adjudicate issues with vendors

-Work well under minimal supervision

Mobility to include, sitting, standing, walking, talking and hearing, manual dexterity to use fingers to keyboard, handle and feel; stooping, bending, and kneeling; lifting generally under twenty-five (25) pounds); vision to permit close and easy viewing of computer screen. Typical office work environment, quiet noise level.
