Electro-Mechanical Technician

Spectral Instruments, a world leader in high-end scientific CCD imaging, is seeking a highly skilled electro-mechanical technician to join our engineering and special products group.

Job Responsibilities



The responsibility of this position is to perform the key role in the mechanical and electrical assembly, production, and test of custom electronic imaging systems to a customers specific requirement. The systems are not routine production systems, but are systems customized to meet the requirements of an application, or may encompass an entirely new design.


 A person in this role will:


 1)    Work with the engineering staff to test and evaluate new designs.


2)    Test and troubleshoot circuit boards at the component level


3)    Perform precision mechanical and optical assembly


4)    Document/verify parts used in the final assembly of new designs


5)    Operate vacuum and vacuum leak test equipment


6)    Test and adjust imaging systems using various optical test fixtures and computerized camera control and data analysis equipment


 In addition, some limited electronic design and construction and minor alteration of mechanical parts using machine tools is required.   




Job Requirements 


Education:


Prefer a candidate with an associates degree in electronics with 10 plus years of experience.


 Skills:



Necessary skills include:


 1)    Firm knowledge of modern high-speed analog and digital circuits with the ability to quickly read and interpret complex schematic diagrams. 


2)    Good judgment when working with expensive and delicate ESD      sensitive  components.


3)    Familiarity using basic electronic test tools such as oscilloscope and DVM.


4)    Good mechanical assembly skills, steady hands and good vision. 


5)    Capable of testing, troubleshooting, and repairing analog and digital circuits at component level using surface mount components.


6)    Ability to use and troubleshoot complex computer driven systems.


7)    Fluent with computer use and basic software skills.
