The Digital Evidence Lab (DEL) Examiner
The Digital Evidence Lab (DEL) Examiner uses approved computer programs, hardware, and processes to create forensic images and assist other team members with the creation of forensic images. The DEL Examiner examines magnetic media commonly used with computers, including but not limited to: hard drives, flash drives, cellular telephones, personal data assistants, fax machines, digital cameras, digital recording devices, global positioning devices, and other media. The examination is conducted in accordance with customer Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIRs), DEL Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and within the scope of the Search Warrant.
Qualifications/ Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of the use and characteristics of a variety of computer systems including computer equipment, operating systems, application software, utility programs, forensic software and magnetic media storage devices. Knowledge is used to analyze each particular situation, to identify the system and use the correct approach to retrieve data. Prior use of EnCase, FTK and ILook is preferred. Knowledge, training, and experience in examinations, with particular emphasis on the use of technology. Many of these skills originate as a user of and experience with various electronic data storage devices.
Must have functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include: Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. Ability to read, speak, and write Spanish fluently and skills with other foreign languages may also be helpful.
Education/Experience:
AA or 2 year Technical School preferred along with 3 years of experience. An additional 4 years of direct relevant experience may be substituted for education. Knowledge of legal issues regarding search and seizure and evidence handling as it relates to electronic data storage devices and courtroom procedures. Well- developed written and oral communication skills are necessary to prepare reports and instructions.
