Minimum Requirements: Associates degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience. Experience: 8+ years of experience. Capability with 2D and/or 3D plant design is strongly recommended. Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel. SPECIALIZED SKILLS DESIRED . Experience with vehicle diagnostics and repair systems, preferably with wheeled tactical vehicles supporting USMC . Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and power distribution design requirements and standards . Fabrication or manufacturing background, esp. involving sheet metal, welding, and systems integration . Tools and standards: using AutoCAD R14/2000, Solid Edge and Pro/Engineer Wildfire, and GD&T. DOD 5200.1, DOD 5220.22M, DI-SESS-81000C, MIL-DTL-31000, ASME Y14.100-2004, ASME Y14.24-1999, ASME Y14.34-2008 and ASME Y14.5-2009. MIL-D-81992, DOD-STD-2101, DI-SESS-81000C
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel.

Job Description: The Designer is responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the projects discipline engineers. Works under the direction of the Design Supervisor or Lead Designer.
Essential Responsibilities: 1. Under minimal supervision, may develop complex engineering drawings. 2. Applies a solid level of understanding within a specific discipline. 3. Understands codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline. 4. Fully understands the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.
5. Basic understanding of engineers process of performing and verifying design calculations to support the overall project design. 6. Fully understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews discipline supplier documents for accuracy. Can also review other disciplines supplier documents. 7. Fully understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management, and can review/advise on purchase orders and subcontracts. 8. Collects data on manpower, man-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff to aid in evaluating the budget. 9. Intermediate knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs material take-offs for the discipline. 10. Intermediate knowledge of disciplines materials costs and concept of cost analysis and forecasting. 11. Basic knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change. 12. Fully understands the disciplines equipment and material lists. 13. May provide technical guidance to less experienced design staff. 14. Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project. 15. Prepares complete information for design details, bill of materials, etc., that can be distributed to other design or draft personnel for completion. 16. Advises the Design Supervisor, Lead Designer or Supervising Discipline Engineer about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems. 17. Provides technical guidance and assistance to other design and draft personnel and is responsible for neatness and accuracy of work. 18. Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned design tasks. 19. Keeps proper files and records related to assigned design activities. 20. Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training. 21. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
