Job Description :
Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for scaled layout drawings and/or schematic diagrams of products and components by CAD drawings, the analysis of existing component tolerances for interference problems, and the developments and implementation of product improvements. This position is also responsible to offer technical assistance to solve manufacturing and field problems and assist in answering product problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
* Directly responsible for development of layouts and detail drawings for custom products as assigned. * Perform any necessary design calculations to insure safe and reliable performance of products. * Responsible for dimension and tolerance review to insure product manufacturability and product quality. * Responsible for custom product drawings packages released to production as driven by custom orders. * Indirectly responsible for production efficiency, UL/CSA listing and other issues related to the completion of a product design. * Provide technical assistance for revisions to existing to product lines. * Responsible for the alteration of existing drawings to reflect Engineering changes and prepares to change orders for Manufacturing. * Assists in the training of new design engineers. * Special projects as required by management. QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in drafting/technical area (or equivalent) and 5 years related designing/engineering experience including familiarity with layout of components.
Working knowledge of engineering theory and its applications to solve mechanical and fabrication problems.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills and Abilities
Must have knowledge of Drafting Standards, Microsoft Office - Word, Excel and Manufacturing Data Base
