Design Engineer I-Platform
Job Title: Design Engineer I-Platform

Description: POSITION PURPOSE:
Execution of design engineering development projects to include components, subsystems and systems.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
. Develop requirements-driven integration plans for new components, subsystems and systems
. Define platform content ensuring continuous design improvement
. Responsible for understanding customer needs, requirements, reference standards and translating them into project specific internal performance specifications and design requirements.
. Integrate prototype components, subsystems and systems in test, engineering fit-up and prototype build efforts for design verification
. Planning and executing test and verification plans for components, subsystems and systems
. Development and documentation of technical data package including bill of material, released 2D & 3D drawings and test verification data ensuring compliance and conformance to all program requirements and specifications.
. Interfaces and represents Design Engineering with other internal and external organizations including Program Management, Manufacturing, Service, Purchasing, Finance and Contracts, etc.
. Conducts internal and external Preliminary and Critical design reviews.
. Role in Sterling Heights Technical facility primarily focused on supporting internal project engineers and Ladson design engineers by coordinating and collaborating with Program Management, Manufacturing, R&D, Service, Purchasing, Finance and Contracts. to deliver technical data packages on time
. Role in Ladson facility is focused on engineering design concepts and continuous improvements to current products in accordance with project plans and guiding design support with engineering requirements and technical information (analysis / test data, etc...).
. Role in Sterling Heights and Ladson facility will also include other duties as assigned.

SKILLS FOR SUCCESS:
. Bachelor degree in Engineering or 2 yr Technical Degree or significant directly applicable experience.
. Industry experience desired, preferably in one or more of the following industries such as automotive, heavy truck, military vehicle systems, information technology, electronics or prior Junior Military Officer / Senior enlisted or demonstrated equivalent performance internally at FPI.
. Technical, Analytical and Financial problem solving skills.
. Familiarity with Supplier, Manufacturing and Assembly Capabilities.
. Proficient in Microsoft Toolset (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project, .)
. 3D CAD experience with ability to produce release drawing packages in Solid Works or other 3D CAD system.
. Ability to operate in a Matrix Management Environment.
. Good interpersonal, communication and team building skills.
. Must be able to handle a fast paced design and manufacturing environment in a start-up company, and be prepared to contribute and mentor on system and process design and implementation.
. Ability to investigate and develop corrective actions to issues with minimal supervision and follow through to release including authoring 3D CAD drawing packages.
. In-depth knowledge and experience of BoM generation & structure, part number generation and description nomenclature, and use of MRP/ERP system.
. Must have a sound understanding of the manufacturing and demonstrate a hands-on approach when required.

. Must be able to work weekends, overtime, holidays and any shift if required
