AutoReqId 35997BR Function Engineering Division Electrical Components Division External Job Title Design Engineer- Horseheads, NY Job Description PRIMARY FUNCTION: 1. State the primary function or overall purpose of your position. Initiates and designs vacuum interrupters, which meet customers' requirements for form fit and function. Research alternative designs, which will expand the performance of current designs and develop new designs to meet anticipated market needs. Develops new vacuum interrupter design concepts. Initiates and performs vacuum interrupter R&D.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Limit yourself to 8-12 statements) 2. List the essential functions (i.e. key responsibilities with expected end results) which must be accomplished in order to fulfill the purpose of your position as described above.
A. Leads in developing new vacuum interrupter designs. B. Works with customers to apply Eaton vacuum interrupter designs in customer mechanisms. C. Responds to customer technical questions D. Communicates with Eaton marketing, research, production, and development engineers as well as the customer's design engineering personnel. E. Designs devices which meet the performance objectives required. F. Evaluates materials and processes required to meet the quality, performance, and cost objectives. G. Implements manufacturing specifications for new vacuum interrupter designs. H. Plans and coordinates projects using Pro Launch to meet specific time and production requirements. I. Evaluates the design performance and modifies the design if required. J. Provides technical assistance and consultation to transfer developmental designs to production. K. Reports via technical memos and/or presentations latest engineering developments. L. Maintains a good working knowledge of and operates high level computer software such as CAS, ProE, Autocad, Ansoft FEA Programs, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc. M. Address unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and hazards in your respective work area(s) and evaluate the ensuing corrections. N. Support all EHS functions, including ELS, ESP, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

The position requires leadership in identifying the cost structure of new vacuum interrupter designs and in incorporating cost-effective manufacturing techniques. This position impacts directly or indirectly most of the above mentioned costs. The position requires close attention to production expense and the vacuum interrupter engineering designs for today will directly effect sales volume in one or two year's time.
