Design Drafter II

The Design Drafter II will prepare complex design layouts. Provide support to engineering projects including responsibility for the engineering vault drawings and records; provide estimates for proposals; develops Statement of Work, standards, detailed designs using CADD; may supervise and coordinate subcontract drafting; and provide field support for offsite activities.
Qualified candidate should have experience as Design Drafter on complex aircraft development, modification and upgrade projects and specifically familiar with F-16 aircraft.
1. Researches data required to develop designs from historical data, manufacturer's catalogues, and technical guides/orders. Employs the best combination of preliminary information and contributing data to develop final designs.
2. Writes specifications and Statements of Work for project materials/equipment and prepares estimates.
3. Develops complex design layouts of complex structural enclosures, aircraft structures, avioncs assemblies and electromechanical equipment requiring considerable drafting skill to visualize and portray. This is done using computer drafting equipment or standard hand drafting techniques and is done to communicate engineering ideas and information in support of engineering functions.
4. Develops complex wiring diagrams, schematics and layout drawings used in manufacture, test, assembly, installation and repair of electronic equipment. Develops complex layout and detailed drawings of racks, panels, wings, various aircraft structures, and enclosures.
5. Develops complex detailed working drawings of machinery and mechanical devices, indicating dimensions and tolerances, fasteners and joining requirements, and other engineering data. Develops multiple-view assembly and subassembly drawings required for manufacture and repair of mechanisms.
6. Coordinates with engineers and other design personnel to satisfy detail design requirements for proposals and industrial or military equipment.
7. Reviews and verifies completed work checking accuracy of dimensions, materials to be used, relationship of one part to another and various parts to the whole and quantities.
8. May prepare technical illustrations and paste-up work of parts or equipment for clarity and dimensional purposes.
9. Maintains records of each plan's phase of completion and location.
10. Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CATIA preferred.
11. Interfaces with intradepartmental personnel in a team environment to solicit objective viewpoints, fresh ideas, and best practices including key operational artisans and theleadership of the manufacturing group.
The candidate must work well in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment and be able to perform cost estimates and track schedules.
Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree and 7 years related experience. High School Diploma or GED and 9 years related experience. At least two years experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CATIA. Strong communication skills with the ability to convey concepts, plans, and visions to mixed audience.
