Job Description: Under administrative direction, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to administer and manage more complex database systems, including creating, managing, monitoring performance and tuning databases; data warehousing design; data architecture strategy design; and capacity planning. Leads large or multiple projects with significant scope and impact, requiring originality and ingenuity with some latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions. Results are evaluated at agreed upon milestones for effectives in achieving specified results. Extensive contact with internal customers and other information technology (IT) professionals is required to identify, research, analyze and resolve database issues and problems.
Responsibilities: - Ensures high availability, security and integrity of assigned databases. - Implements data models and database designs and enables applications with efficient back-end access and processing. - Resolves database performance, capacity, replication, and other distributed data issues. - Installs and configures database management software (DBMS) and applicable service packs and/or patches. - Develops and implements database maintenance plans, including performing integrity checks, updating statistics and monitoring security and hardware resource utilization. - Establishes regular backups of databases and transaction logs. - Manages logins and user accounts, including assigning database object permissions and ancillary privileges. - Schedules and manages jobs for data transfers and sundry procedures and monitors performance and impact on operations. - Participates in data modeling and database logical and physical design. - Participates in application development processes and code reviews of database objects. - Analyzes long-term database performance trends to optimize database and application performance. - Configures database server to work with middleware, web servers and OnLine Analytical Processing (OLAP) tools. - Configures, supports, and optimizes replication. - Maintains currency in database administration practices and techniques. - Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications. - Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Technical Skills: - Perform code reviews of database objects. - Minimum two years Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience - Experience supporting multiple production and development servers - Good Transact-SQL skills - ability to write and tune complicated stored procedures and views utilizing inner and outer joins - General knowledge of Windows 2003/2008 and hardware including RAID configurations - Experience supporting SQL Server replication - Ability to create and troubleshoot SSIS packages - Interpreting data models and developing database structures. - Using standard diagramming techniques to design and develop data models. - Programming, configuring, managing and maintaining the operation of relational databases. - Developing and manipulating data sets. - Installing, maintaining, modifying and upgrading database software. - Implementing and troubleshooting programming changes and modifications. - Performing acceptance testing on computer systems, applications and hardware. - Troubleshooting database and application performance problems in highly distributed application architecture. Knowledge of: - Client server and database architecture, sufficient to lead performance tuning and optimization efforts. - Concepts, principles, and practices of database administration and management. - Computer and network security systems, applications, procedures and techniques. - Data integrity methods and techniques. - Concepts, practices and procedures used in the financial services industry. Ability to: - Ability to act swiftly and accurately in a calm, professional manner to correct any disruption that may occur to a database or database server. - Attend to detail in ensuring operations on databases and database servers are accurate, including developing contingency plans. - Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives. - Incorporate needs, wants and goals from different business unit perspectives into database structures and designs. - Organize, manage and track multiple detailed tasks and assignments with frequently changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment. - Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with internal customers and other IT professionals. - Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment. - Provide a high level of customer service. - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
