Find out more and connect with our technologists atand /> Posted Position Title Combustion Research Engineer Career Level Entry-Level Function Engineering/Technology Function Segment Research - Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Location United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces New York City Niskayuna Postal Code 12309-1027 Relocation Assistance Yes Role Summary/Purpose As a Combustion Research Engineer, you will be a member of the Emissions and Fuel Flexibility Lab, which is focused on developing state-of-the-art gas turbine combustion technology. You will perform research and development of combustion technology and systems for GE businesses including Aviation and Energy. Essential Responsibilities You will work with teams that conceptualize, develop and evaluate low-emissions combustion technologies for a wide range of GE products. Your responsibilities will include conducting high-temperature and pressure combustion research experiments, and modeling of combustion phenomena using commercial engineering analysis tools.
As a Combustion Research Engineer, you will:
* Work with technicians and engineers to design and install new experiment hardware.
* Perform high-pressure and temperature combustion experiments and analyze results.
* Work with other engineers in developing new combustion models and analysis tools. Qualifications/Requirements * Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines OR Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
* Knowledge of combustion, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and combustion chemistry.
* Background in performing combustion experiments
* Ability to investigate, model and provide critical insight into complex physical phenomena.
* Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
* Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
* Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.

Desired Characteristics * Background in gas turbine combustion and emissions, including: fuel/air premixing systems, autoignition, flame propagation in complex fuel mixtures, combustion kinetics & chemistry, thermo-acoustic instabilities (combustion dynamics), design and evaluation of new combustion systems, and modeling of combustion systems.
* Peer reviewed journal publications.
* Experience working with high-pressure, high-temperature combustion experiments
* Knowledge of temperature and flow measurement systems
* Experience working in teams and creating innovative technology solutions.
* Knowledge of National Instruments LabWindows data acquisition and control software.
* Knowledge of Fluent, Chemkin or other combustion/kinetics modeling programs
* Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification
* Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
* Strong analytical skills
