CNC Machinist
Sets up and operates single spindle drill presses; balancers; keyseaters; conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate parts and to perform such machining operations as sawing, drilling, turning, facing, threading, grinding, counter boring, countersinking, spot facing, and tapping holes in work pieces within specified tolerances by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


? Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, sample parts, job order and/or tooling instructions to determine specifications such as hole locations and size, feed rates, cutting speeds, and cutting tools to be used, dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.

? Lifts work piece manually or with hoist, places it in fixture or jig, on machine table or chuck (three and four jaw chucks), and secures it in position with clamps or chuck jaws.

? Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining/drilling operation(s).

? Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, drills, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as machining centers, vertical boring mills, horizontal boring mills, milling machines, lathes, jig borers, grinders, drill presses, shapers, and saws.

? Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as cutting speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Applies appropriate cutting fluid during material removal operations.

? Engages power to automatically or manually operate feed and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

? Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications.

? Confers with supervisor, engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

? Operates welding equipment to repair part or to bring part into rough dimension compliance prior to machining, drilling, etc.

? Balances impellers using the static or dynamic balancer and grinding excess material from part to bring it into balance tolerance.

? Machines keyway geometry into product.

Qualifications:

? High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Will need basic functionality with keyboard and mouse to make selections and enter data.
