Posted Position Title Aviation Computing Systems Application Engineer Career Level Experienced Function Engineering/Technology Function Segment Product Design and Development Location United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces Michigan City Grand Rapids Postal Code 49512-1934 Relocation Assistance Yes Role Summary/Purpose The Aviation Computing Systems (ACS) product area is organized into four main product lines: Commercial Computing, Military Computing, Flight Control Electronics, and Synergy Computing. The ACS Application Engineering team is seeking a candidate who has a broad level of systems, hardware, and software expertise that spans all four-product lines. Essential Responsibilities * Be responsibe for all products, projects, and programs, which make up the ACS product area (as part of the ACS Application Engineering team)
* Be responsible for the technical aspects of Technology Planning, Strategic Planning, Business Pursuit, and Program Execution
* A candidate is being sought who has expertise in one or more of the four main technologies that span across all ACS product areas:
* Integrated Modular Avionics Hardware and Software Technologies
* High Availability and High Integrity Computing Hardware and Software Technologies
* Secure Computing Hardware and Software Technologies
* General Purpose Aviation Computing Hardware and Software Technologies
* Identify enabling and discriminating technologies and Intellectual Property (IP)
* Define key technology / competency / IP gaps for the product area
* Identify and prioritize product area IR&D topics and budgets
* Document relative technical competitive position and market trends
* Develop technical portion of product strategic roadmaps and plans
* Provide technical support for product area capture plans
* Participate in relevant industry working groups and conferences
* Assist in identifying acquisitions or partnerships that address our strategy.
* Support teaming with customers and industry partners to define product requirements
* Develop and present Customer Presentations and Technical White Papers
* Cultivate strong relationships with Customer technical counterparts
* Accurately estimate costs incurred in designing, building, and testing products
* Be aware of product manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability during the pursuit
* Support technical proposal development including Job Analysis (JA) and the bid approval process, for new business pursuits
* Verify that the critical technical customer requirements are met by our proposals
* Support bid approval presentations
* Share responsibility with the rest of the Product Area leadership team to meet our sales and orders objectives
* Provide technical support to Product Area Program Managers to ensure projects are successful and that the profit objectives are met
* Provide overall technical oversight for their area of expertise within the product area
* Serve as lead system architects / consultants for the ACS Product Area
* Identify design re-use opportunities to reduce cost and risk
* Recommend outsource opportunities
* Provide continuity within and across multiple programs to maximize synergies
* Maintain a product area specific Technical Lessons Learned database
* Mentor junior engineers to develop their product domain knowledge
* Troubleshoot major system, hardware, and software problems with our suppliers, partners or customers
* Possess in-depth knowledge of the technical and business organization and capabilities of adjacent product areas / business units Qualifications/Requirements * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college
* Minimum of 10 years of experience in Engineering Design and Product Manufacturing
