This position will be responsible for the overall operation of high pressure steam generators, steam turbo generators; station auxiliaries for a given shift. No Relocation will be offered for this position.

Job Class Title - Assistant Plant Operator (Fox Lake) Journeyman-Apprentice

Reports to (Title) - Plant Operator

Position Purpose - Assist Plant Operator in the overall operation of high pressure steam generators, steam turbo generators; station auxiliaries for a given shift.

Job Responsibilities -
Essential:
Starts, operates, inspects and shuts down all steam generators, steam turbo generating units and all associated auxiliary equipment as requested by Plant Operator.

Observe and record pressures, temperatures and flows on all operating equipment and controls.

At direction of Plant Operator, receives and executes orders relative to electric loads and switching instructions.

Operates all pumps, heaters, pulverizers and other auxiliary equipment; operates circulating water screens, pumps, chlorination equipment, condensers and air removal equipment.

Operates switchgear as instructed.

Make minor repairs and replacements on station equipment and report other maintenance requirements.

Supervise and assist in training of other operating employees, and in absence of supervision assume full charge of plant and grounds.

Assist in HOLD CARD procedures to take equipment out of service.

Clean boiler passes, preheaters, flues, ducts, ash pits and pyrites by removing ashes as required; inspect, operate and clean storage batteries and charging unit.

Operate plant while Plant Operator is absent and/or in case of emergencies.
Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

Other responsibilities:
Work in maintenance crew while plant equipment is down for inspection, maintenance or emergency repairs.

Perform other related work as required for the safe, orderly, efficient and harmonious operation of the plant.

Minimum Qualifications -
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by courses in steam power plant operation, practical electricity and power plant apprenticeship training course.

Training:
Apprenticeship training.
Licenses/Certificates:
Obtain and maintain valid driver's license; must obtain the state of Minnesota Second Class Engineer's Grade ""A"" License within six (6) months of being assigned this position.

Experience:
Internal seniority and progression system; Interstate Power Company training program; minimum of two (2) years in actual power plant operations.

Physical Requirements/Demands:
Good health; good eyesight: color vision - field and depth perception; ability to properly wear all safety equipment; some climbing involved; ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds; not afraid of heights.

KSA (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Ability to read blueprints, maintenance manuals, and technical manuals.

Mechanical aptitude.

Reading and math knowledge.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to read and comprehend Right To Know information.

Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR.

Ability to exercise good judgment during emergencies.

Capacity for quick, accurate decisions and speed of execution.

Environmental:
Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions; confined spaces, height, moving mechanical parts, exposure to heat/cold, fumes, dust, noise, water; subject to shift changes.
