Our brands include AgriSolutionsTM crop protection products and CROPLAN GENETICS® seed. Position Purpose: This position will be located at the Davis, CA Research Station. Ideal candidate would live or open to relocate to the Davis, CA area.
(1) Assist alfalfa breeder to implement the non-dormant breeding, biotech and molecular breeding programs in California. Responsibilities include data collection, entry and analysis; plant sampling, crossing and propagation; greenhouse management; disease screening; and compliance reporting. (2) Serve as primary support in design, prototype development, testing, maintenance and rebuild of central database for alfalfa and silage corn. Required (Basic) Experience & Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Breeding or related field; practical experience in an operational alfalfa breeding program; specialized experience in data management and analysis. Minimum two years of research experience; applied experience in agronomy, small-plot field research and/or greenhouse management. Required Competencies & Other Skills: Critical thinking; ability to work independently and efficiently; initiative; effective communication and management skills with all levels of research staff; advanced proficiency in Excel, Access and PRISM, Agrobase or similar database software. Attention to detail; accurate and detailed record-keeping and reporting; excellent verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills; planning, organization and time management skills; leadership potential. Preferred Experience & Education: Three to five years of experience in alfalfa breeding with practical skills in field data collection, greenhouse management, pollination and disease screening, preferably in the seed industry; experience in forage yield testing and local agronomic practices is strongly preferred. Preferred Competencies & Other Skills: Database development, computer programming or demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn in these areas. Proficiency in speaking Spanish would be helpful.
