The Engineering Technician (Seating) directly supports the development of new or improved products/processes/techniques. Responsible for performing standard technical assignments, supporting prototype builds, participating in design for assembly (DFA) initiatives, supporting the creation of assembly work instructions, and directly responsible for correcting assembly errors / defects identified as part of Final Inspection.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: * Directly supports new engineering builds, using DFM/DFA Techniques to assist Project/Design Engineering on the development of new products and the redesign of existing products. * Participates in the creation of preliminary work instructions during the initial engineering build; refines during critical design review (CDR) build, and participates in the final (production) implementation. * Directly supports the Quality Inspector to resolve all pick-ups identified at final inspection. * Supports the Manufacturing Engineer in designing tools/fixtures for assembly and acceptance testing. * Provides technical support in the design, fabrication, modification and evaluation of assembly operations. * Provides assembly support in technical matters relating to assembly drawing interpretation, engineering change orders, rework, manufacturing difficulties and specifications. * Participates in root cause analysis & corrective action for all customer returns in cooperation with Program Management and Quality. * Supports the Production Team Leader to ensure all assemblers are trained and technically knowledgeable to perform activities in accordance with the work instructions. * Promotes a culture of safety to ensure all duties are performed within the guidelines as specified by the TIMCO Safety Manual. * Supports continuous improvement with emphasis on reproducibility and reducing errors/defects to achieve desired TAKT time. * Participates in daily production meetings as a “voice of the process” and tactically supports the assembly build schedule. * Participates in Kaizen activities to resolve assembly line process problems, including implementation of Lean and/or Six Sigma best practices. * Ensures adherence to all TIMCO Aerosystems quality and FAA regulations. Qualifications:
MINIMUM: * Associates Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent level of experience may be substituted. * Five (5) years related experience in an assembly/machining technical role. * Experience with mechanical systems and lean manufacturing principles. * Familiarity with a diverse range of materials (i.e. aluminum alloys, stainless steel alloys, engineering polymers, composites, etc.). * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical data. * Capable of applying DFM/DFA techniques. * Strong analytical and mechanical troubleshooting skills. * Read, write, speak and understand the English language. PREFERRED: * Experience within commercial aircraft seating/monument (assembly) environment. * Experience with 3-D Modeling software (Unigraphics, Solid Works, or Solid Edge) * Lean implementation with emphasis on standard work & line balancing. * DMAIC problem solving.
