Develop new control algorithms for automatic transmissions. Test and verify control algorithms using a combination of test bench, vehicle and system simulation methods. Develop common calibrations to integrated automatic transmission control algorithms across vehicle product lines. Details include:

- Algorithm Design-Implement-Verify
- Functional knowledge of powertrain subsystem and performance requirements
- Interpret applicable specific subsystem requirements
- Execute design enhancements to support current and new product /customer requirements for automatic transmission functions and diagnostics
- Demonstrate continuous improvement of subsystem features and function
- support, identification and resolution of issues as raised by product team
- proactively identify performance improvement opportunities

- Understand new product technology to contribute to definition of optimum software design and architecture
- Develop detailed test cases for algorithm verification
- Develop common calibration procedures for new control algorithms
- Plans and performs algorithm verification testing
- Plans and performs common calibration integration verification tests
- Provide design direction / resolve algorithm design issues
- Provide common calibration direction for new control algorithms
- Adhere to GM Software Standards through process enforcement: design steps and deliverables meet standards
- Promote & improve process, standards adherence
- Adhere to all safety precautions and requirements, and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities
- Communicates information to and from internal organizations
- Interface with other technical resources (e.g. Advanced Engineering, Lead Calibration, Diagnostic and Hardware Development groups)
- Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
- Travels as required

Qualifications

Basic Required

- Experience with software programming in C.
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
- Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual program deadlines
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering

Basic Preferred

- Excel Macro Proficiency
- Basic knowledge of automatic transmissions
- Basic knowledge of powertrain systems
- Matlab/Simulink Experience
- Engineering Related Co-op Experience

Education and Training

Candidate should have one of the following engineering degrees: BSE in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aeronautical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or BS in Computer Science.
